DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, August 21\, 2025\nSmyrna\, TN\n\nJoin us as we explore all five stages of the manufacturing process: from steel delivery to pre-test vehicle delivery at the Nissan Motor Company vehicle assembly plant.  The Nissan Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant opened in 1983 and marked the beginning of automotive production in Tennessee. For more than 30 years\, the Smyrna team has been assembling quality\, award-winning cars\, trucks\, crossovers and SUVs. The plant has grown significantly and transformed from a domestic manufacturer to a global manufacturer. \nWe will have lunch together at Legends Steakhouse at 11:00 a.m.\, and following the lunch\, we will depart for Nissan to arrive at approximately 12:40 p.m. for the tour\, which begins promptly at 1:00 p.m. The tour should last 60 to 90 minutes. NWI Nashville specializes in long and large aluminum machining\, forming\, processing\, and assembly up to 30 meters (100 ft) in length and the production of complex structural parts and assemblies to aerospace and adjacent markets including the world’s business jets\, military\, and commercial platforms. \nNWI manufactures some of the longest skins\, stringers\, and spars in the industry\, and uses state-of-the-art machining technology to produce large\, monolithic\, complex components. \nCommon parts include: \nWing stingers\nWing skins\nWing spars\nEmpennage components\nWing assemblies\nFuselage\nWing to body assemblies\nEmpennage assemblies\nFloor structure assemblies\nFloor beam assemblies \nTOUR INFORMATION: \nBefore Arrival\nSite access must be arranged through your NWI point of contact\, prior to your visit.\nIf you are a non-US person\, then you must coordinate with your NWI point of contact approximately two weeks prior to visit\, if possible. \nPlease note our Facility Restrictions.\nValid government-issued photo ID is required upon arrival. DESCRIPTION:Please join us in our monthly tour at Tennessee Tech University’s Department of Manufacturing and Engineering Technology (MET). Attendees will meet at Lewis Hall and learn about the manufacturing labs of the MET department\, the Foundry\, iMakerSpace and iCube. \nDinner to follow after the tour. \nPart of the TTU’s College of Engineering\, the Engineering Technology program will prepares students to work in all types of manufacturing industries designing and improving processes. The program provides a broad background and hands-on experience in many areas including manufacturing processes\, automated manufacturing\, computer-aided design and manufacturing\, fixture and tooling design. Lean production principles\, project management\, engineering economic analysis and communication skills are also important parts of this program. \nThe Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology curriculum is built upon STEM technical-managerial education. The department strives to keep the curriculum up-to-date by incorporating new technological developments as they occur. The curriculum encompasses courses in manufacturing engineering technology\, industrial engineering technology\, industrial automation and business management. The courses give students an appealing and well-rounded education with breadth to function in any production environment. Potential employers know that the program’s graduates understand all of the common production operations that exist within a manufacturing environment. \nThe engineering technology curriculum ensures that the students gain problem solving skills through the general education requirements for mathematics and science courses. In the course of their study\, students learn how to apply the rules of physics and use their mathematical skills to solve these problems. Furthermore\, the students also gain written and oral communication skills and a background in literature\, and American history. Students graduate with a minor in business by taking courses related to business practices\, economics\, accounting\, and management as part of their regular curriculum requirements. \nUpon completion of the engineering technology program\, graduates will have strong background in industrial engineering technology topics to include: occupational safety\, maintenance technology\, manufacturing cost estimating\, methods design and work measurements\, quality assurance\, and plant layout and materials handling.
