The Society of Manufacturing Engineers Student Chapter S239 a.k.a. Robotics Club of MTSU continued to win awards in various categories at the National Robotics Challenge (NRC) 2025. Below is the list of awards won by the teams and some pictures from the competitions. There were 535 robots registered overall, and 25 post-secondary schools/colleges/universities participated in the NRC. On behalf of student chapter S239, we sincerely thank SME 43’s continued support, advise and encouragement.
Sumo Robot: Silver Award (2nd place) and Nominated for Honda Innovation Award 2025 (13 robot teams nominated out of 535 registered robots).
Team Captain – Malachi Allen.
A sumo robot is a completely autonomous robot in a ring which has to find the opponent and push it out of the arena to win.
MTSU’s bot won 6 out of 7 rounds.
Combat Robot: Gold Award (1st place).
Team captain – Daniel Wetter.
Combat Robot or Battle Bot is remote controlled and has to destroy or disable the opponent inside an enclosed arena.
MTSU’s robot won Gold for the first time. All 7 matches won.
Battle Royale: Winner/Gold.
Team Captain: Jon Riley Stansell.
This is a multi-robot combat inside the enclosed battle arena. MTSU’s Combat Robot pushed 3 other robots into the pit to win this. Three other robots got stuck into one another and were not moving. A total of 10 combat robots participated in this event.
